19-Inch Wheel With Innovative Central Locking System Pays Homage To RS Spyder Racing Car
MISSISSAUGA -- October 29, 2008 --- Porsche today introduced a new 19-inch wheel design exclusively for the 911 Turbo models, dubbed RS Spyder.
The new wheels, which feature a newly-developed central locking system (generally used in motorsport) instead of regular wheel nuts, are made of forged aluminum. A central wheel bolt fastens the new 19-inch wheels firmly and safely on the wheel bearing.
An innovative security mechanism on the wheel bearing is made of a cartridge fitted in the wheel hub with spring-mounted security bolts.
The design of the wheels, featuring seven U-shaped double spokes, is derived from the wheels on Porsche’s RS Spyder racing car, which recently won all titles in the American Le Mans Series for the third time in a row. The Porsche RS Spyder also won its class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on its first outing and brought home the winner’s title in the European Le Mans Series.
The new wheel will be available as an option on the 911 Turbo in January 2009.
