Four pleasure-filled seasons

Driving pleasure depends on a many factors: the chassis‘s rigidity, suspension quality, steering precision, the power and torque of the engine and more. BMW remains a beacon when searching for sheer driving joy; now, the 335xi provides it 365 days a year.

xDrive

This all-wheel drive technology, unique to BMW now graces the Series 3, the Series 5, the X3 and the X5. If a lack of traction occurs, it changes the distribution between the front and back torque in milliseconds. This makes driving, especially in winter, much more secure and enjoyable. As to Series 3, two versions can be equipped with xDrive, the 328i and the 335i. The aforementioned sedan version will be the focus of our tryout. This technology cost $2,600 over and above the base prices of vehicles. After having tested the system in the worst winter conditions, I think the extra money is well spent.

Road-test liked:

  • the excellent road hugging made possible by the 50/50 weight distribution;
  • the brakes’ power and endurance;
  • the superb in-line six cylinder twin-turbo;
  • the acceleration speed, in gear and out;
  • the general balance of the vehicle;
  • the high level of security and the year-long driving satisfaction;

Road-test disliked:

  • the lack of space for the rear passengers;
  • basic equipment could be upgraded considering the price( even the leather seats are optional);
  • the central console’s sparse look and lack of originality;
  • a price way above the Japanese and American competition;
  • the all-wheel drive 15% higher fuel consumption
