Subaru Impreza 2008
By Benjamin Cyr
Road-test likes:
• the WRX’s overall performance
• the vehicle’s weight loss, about 25kg
• the quieter ride
• better security features
• the different look of the hatchback version
• the excellent all-wheel drive
• the competitive price
• the more comfortable interior
• the adequate torque of the 2.5i
Road-test dislikes:
• the four speed automatic transmission
• adequate braking at best; more power is needed, especially to the WRX
• the Impreza ‘s new body (especially the sedan version) lacks creativity
• very ordinary fuel economy
• the rough and imprecise manual transmission
• the sound system’s lack or power and poor sound quality
I hope this Impreza attracts new consumers to Subaru’s showrooms. Apart from a few negatives, it remains a safe family vehicle regardless of road conditions. The WRX offers the same plusses but with a little more comfort. I worry, though, about the image. Having lost the character that differentiated from other industry compacts, will it loose its diehards?
p.s: for you performance junkies, the WRX STi will be completely redone and only come in a five-door hatchback version. The 2.5 litre turbo power will gain 12hp and total 305hp. As soon as we can, we’ll publish our road test. |
