Acura CSX Type-S 2008
By Benjamin Cyr
Road-test liked:
- the excellent manoeuvrability and the light weight make for a tight ride;
- accelerations are excellent (when the tachometer stays in the optimum range);
- the smooth short-shifting manual transmission;
- the beautiful lay-out of the interior and the quality materials;
- the level of standard features;
- the moderate fuel consumption (in spite of the obligatory ‘super’)
Road-test disliked:
- a very high interior noise level, especially when the i-VTEC kicks in at about 6000 revs/pm;
- the weak torque forces one to gear up or jockey the lever to get at that extra power;
- the suspension’s rigidity irritates when negotiating our often bumpy roads;
- the sensation of either wanting or having to floor the vehicle, even in the city;
- a rather over-priced compact.
Very few alternatives
Truly, the CSX Type-S is practically the only vehicle in this price range which offers roominess, luxury, excellent performance, a complete standard features package, a finish beyond reproach and unbeatable dependability. The only possible alternatives would be the four-door Volkswagen GTI that ships with less features but offers more balanced handling, and the Volvo C30 T5 because of its exceptional look, disregarding the poor rear seating. |
