Ford Edge 2007
By Benjamin Cyr
Quite a task!
When you look at Ford’s line-up for 2007, very little stands out. Yet, among the offerings, there’s a black sheep with modern lines and a fetching look that does turn a few heads. No, I refer not to the Mustang but to the new Edge. We had briefly tested the Lincoln MKX before it went into production, it being, in fact, a high end Edge. Now that we’ve put a few hundred on this newcomer, here’s our objective opinion.
Again, the Edge sports a refreshing look which we hope augers well for renewal at Ford. The imposing front grill sets it apart from other cross-over vehicles. It resembles the Murano in size, making it a little more imposing than the Mazda CX-7. Actually, it should be compared to the Mazda CX-9 in terms of interior volume.
As to handling, the Edge holds its own with no surprises. The 3.5 litre, V6 delivers enough power to move its 1900 kg quite easily. Power, I hasten to add, that takes far too much fuel to produce, not withstanding the modern six speed automatic transmission. |
