2008 GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook

Crossover > GMC
By Benjamin Cyr - (2008-01-05)

The sheer number of SUVs and crossovers available today makes it difficult to clearly define our needs and objectives.GM now offers a brand new concept: a full size crossover. I have to agree with the ‘new’ adjective because certain vehicles may come close, yet none has its versatility and behaviour.

2008 GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook

By Benjamin Cyr

Road-Test liked:

  • A modern and unique design which brings fresh air to the world of SUV’s and crossovers;
  • A complete factory installed package;
  • Impressive interior volume allowing  seating for many passengers and storage space for  their baggage;
  • The silence of the ride and the comfort of the interior;
  • Generally pleasurable road handling given the vehicle’s size and vocation;
  • The detailing which, once again, sets it apart from other GM products;
  • The very competitive starting prices for the Saturn ($ 33,990) and the GMC ($ 36,495);
  • An up-to-date  and relatively efficient drive train, especially the six-speed transmission.

Road-Test disliked:

  • The power of the engine which can adjust well to extra weight;
  • The exaggerated turn radius making parking adjustments difficult;
  • The disappointing  city fuel consumption , not a trivial consideration in these times of galloping  prices;
  • The total cost when factoring in the array of options.

Additional comment: René

At the risk of sounding boring or controversy-shy, I agree totally with Ben. The Acadia shines all over: good-looking, spacious, economical and thoroughbred. The slight lack of road stability notwithstanding, I would be hard-pressed to come up with more negatives than those mentioned.

  • In conclusion, the GMC Acadia and the Saturn Outlook were a pleasant surprise what with the tempting prices and their various usages. It would be great to have an optional V8 now and not as a possibility in the future, however, the fuel consumption factor still loams large. All in all, GM should be proud of its current conceptions.
