Honda Accord Coupe 2008
By Benjamin Cyr
The ‘discounted’ Acura
Sitting in the Accord Coupe, you can’t help but notice the similarities of the controls, the materials, and the finish between this Honda and their high-end division; several cab elements remind one of the Acura TL, including handling. While running silently, this new Accord manages to spike overall driving pleasure thanks to the well-adjusted sports suspension, 18-inch rims, low-profile tires and more sensitive steering than previously. What a fetching steering wheel!
Even more surprising is the space afforded the rear passengers. Usually, coupes offer enough front room but squeeze the rear passengers. Not the case here, your guests will never complain about lack of space whether it’s head or legroom. Finally! Let’s add 340 litres of cargo volume as well. The only ‘rub’, in my opinion, has to do with access to the rear seating.
Just shy of perfect
We should all strive for excellence because perfection rarely happens. I believe that the Honda engineers agree because the Accord 2008 excels on practically all levels. Aside from minor irritants like the over-abundance of controls, or a traction system that ‘freaks out’ in winter, the Accord Coupe should be at or near the top of the list when you’re in the market. Our tryout’s retail price list’s at $38,290 but that the fully-loaded version (EX-1 Navi). The EX Coupe version (4 cylinders with 190 each) starts at $27,990 and the V6, from $35,490 (available only in leather and with an augmented package).
Being bigger and heavier, I expected a letdown yet I had fun with this car which, at times, reminded me of the big BMW 650Ci coupe. In short, this Accord beats the majority of coupes on the market, including the Mitsubishi Eclipse. The most serious competitor, I think, is the present Altima coupe. |
