Jaguar XKR 2007
By Benjamin Cyr
Likes:
- Tremendous performance and acceleration. Maximum torque, which engages quickly at 3000 rpm slams you into the seat when the pedal is floored and this at virtually any speed;
- The XK’s superb lines never fail to impress;
- The motor music always excites;
- The great stability maintained in turns and at high speeds;
- Fuel consumption is excellent given the power.
Dislikes:
- The limited storage volume makes it difficult to load large travel items;
- Rear seating in name only or reserved for children;
- The lack of standard features for such an expensive car like a sunroof, satellite radio and air conditioned seats;
- The electronic stability system works overtime in the turns, which diminishes driving pleasure.
A Bentley for half the price!
Rare are the occasions when you can refer to a $117,000 car as a bargain. Well, I wouldn’t go that far but during my weeklong try out, the XKR’s plush interior, its unique charm and the high performance level did remind me of the Bentley Continental GT. The Jaguar, however, provides superior driving pleasure. Hum, when you realize that the Bentley costs over $220,000….a tempting offer for those who have the means.

Benjamin speaks only for himself at the beginning of the article. The XKR also put me under its spell. I snapped out of it after sinking the pedal because my head rocketed into the rest! Yes indeed! One is easily seduced; you slip the automatic sequential transmission into second gear by pressing the paddles on the steering wheel, sit back and enjoy the wonderful motor music. The acceleration leaves you breathless and the road adherence gives you peace of mind. The XKR remains stable and communicates well with the driver. One can relax in this vehicle, even at high speeds. All my passengers were surprised at this feline’s agility and stability.
A couple of years ago, the Jaguar looked like a wet cat. The XKR, though, has bite and sharp claws. |
